  • The Toronto Police homicide squad is investigating a fatal assault in the Bathurst Street and St. Clair Avenue area.  Emergency crews were called to the area of Nina Street and Bathurst just after midnight for reports of one man assaulting another.  Paramedics said the victim, who appeared to be in his 60’s, was rushed to a trauma unit with critical injuries.  He later died in hospital.  No suspects have been arrested.

  • The TTC is investigating after a video surfaced on social media that shows a guy filming himself while riding on the back of a subway car.  The video was reportedly filmed about a year ago.  CityNews managed to track down the person who shot the brief video.  The 20-year-old said it was on his “bucket-list” and admitted that he was drunk at the time.

  • Patrick Brown, the ousted Progressive Conservative leader, says he is ending his bid to reclaim his former job.  In a four-page statement posted on social media, Brown says he is quitting the party’s leadership race because it has been difficult on his family, and his candidacy has distracted from the party as it heads toward a spring election.  Brown stepped down amid allegations of sexual misconduct with two women when he was a federal MP.  He strongly denies all the allegations.

  • It’s budget day in Ottawa!  Federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau will unveil his financial blueprint in the House of Commons today – highlighting gender equality and moving towards a national pharmacare program.  No big surprises are expected today.

Say What?!

  • And even deer in Canada follow the rules of the road…  A man in Fernie, British Columbia recently caught this herd of deer making its way down a local street.  The herd appears to pause at the stop sign before moving safely across the road.
